Plain and Supple was born from the encounter of three different back stories. The first story comes straight from my childhood in Brazil, where I often found myself experimenting with kitchen ingredients such as brown sugar, oats, yogurt, olive oil and honey to make lotions and potions in my secret (and sacred) DIY spa. The second story takes place after the birth of my third child, when I realized that I had very little personal time to accomplish a 12 steps skincare routine but still wanted to take good care of myself. Finally, the last story is a sudden and unexpected bump in the carreer I trained for and worked my whole life at.
The loss of something that seemed so solid put my whole life in perspective and made me realize that, in the end, all that matters is spending time doing what you are passionate about and being close to the ones you love. This realization initiated my journey through skincare formulation. A journey that connects these three stories. While manipulating natural ingredients, I am honouring my childhood memories. When making and using skincare that is uncomplicated and efficient, I am honouring myself and all other women (or anyone!) who wish to accomplish some self care in little time. Finally, by abandoning the search for a 9 to 5 job and succumbing to my passion, I honor a life that allows me to be present at my toddler's first steps while sharing with others the joy of self love through skincare. This is my journey. And I invite you to join me in it. It's as simple as that: Plain & Supple.

premium oils (most of which are certified organic), butters and waxes from different parts of the world, including oils sourced directly from my home country, Brazil, from the majestic Amazon forest. In addition, some of our ingredients, such as our chamomile oil, are made in house through infusing flowers in carrier oils for a period of four weeks and then filtering the liquids for a rich, nutrient dense oil. Occasionally, we use naturally derived ingredients or safe synthetics that mimic natural ingredients to improve texture, function and durability of our products.
We investigate each component of our formulas thoroughly to ensure the crafting of products that focus on nourishing, soothing, softening and balancing the skin. In other words: we work hard to deliver a powerhouse of nutrients to satisfy your skin needs.
Our philosophy is based on five pillars:

Our philosophy is based on five pillars:
Quality. The number one factor that guides the formulation and production, from research to manufacturing practices and packaging.
Natural as much as possible. Plain & Supple strives to offer products that are 100% natural whenever possible. Some products, however, require emulsifiers, thickeners, or even a preservative. These are either naturally derived or a safe syhthetic that mimics a natural ingredient.
Sustainability. At Plain & Supple we practice a minimum waste policy, and are constantly repurposing materials. In addition, we choose to partner with companies that also adopt sustainable practices. This is how Plain & Supple contributes to a less large of an environment footprint.
No animal testing. Plain & Supple is Leaping Bunny certified. This means neither our raw materials or final products are tested on animals.
Balanced life. At Plain & Supple we work hard to offer solutions for those who want to accomplish a skincare routine in little time without compromising quality. This can be you, mother of a newborn and maybe two other children and a dog, or you who is managing two jobs and a relationship, or maybe you, a student who also works part time (but if you can afford the time for a slower skincare routine, go ahead and enjoy your moment, Plain & Supple is also for you ;) ).
Which of these pillars speak to you the most?

There is a common misconception that all products in oil form cause acne. Our body naturally produces its own oil (sebum), which helps the skin keep its moisture and protects it against foreign substances. Acne results from a combination of too much sebum with bacteria. Therefore, keeping your skin moisture levels balanced with an oil serum can prevent the skin from getting overly dry and producing too much sebum to compensate for dryness. While some forms of oils, such as occlusive oils (petrolatum, mineral oil and paraffin, for example) can potentially lead to breakouts due to pore congestion, the oils used in our formula have a low comedogenic index, are lightweight and fast-absorbing. In addition, some of them are antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory, providing extra protection against breakouts. It is important to note, however, that every skin reacts differently to each product applied. An extra tip to prevent acne is to always double cleanse your skin at night and use a gentle exfoliator weekly to further encourage cell turnover.
Plain & Supple lip butter is rich in natural fats. Each type of fat has a different melting point. As a result, if exposed to heat, they liquify and resolidify at different rates, causing little grains to be formed. To prevent this from happening, don't leave it in the car or in your pocket (or anywhere where it gets hot, even if just slightly). In addition, water and humidity can also affect your butter's texture and cause it to have a gritty feeling. So the takeaway is: avoid heat and humidity. Nonetheless, if the day was busy and your precious butter was exposed to either of these external factors, not to worry, it is still safe to use and will continue to nourish and protect your lips. To avoid the grainy texture direftly on your lips, warm a small amount on the tip of your fingers to dissolve the grains, then apply it normally.
Plain & Supple takes pride in partnering with third parties that adopt sustainable practices. This is valid both for the suppliers of our oils and for the suppliers of our packaging, labels and marketing materials. In addition, in our small lab we are always working towards the end goal of reducing waste to its maximum.
